New to Water Polo

LOOKING FOR A FUN NEW SPORT?

Getting started with water polo is easy.

Your child doesn't need to know the rules or have any previous water polo experience. Just let us know a little about them, then come along to Wednesday training, meet the coaches, jump in and give it a go.

There's no pressure and no expectation that they already know how to play. There's a place for every child.

Water polo is more than just a game! Your child will learn to be part of a team, communicate, support each other and keep going when things get challenging, building confidence, fitness, resilience and independence while making friends and having fun.

For some children, it becomes a sport they simply love playing with their friends. For others, it can open the door to competition, Academy and representative opportunities.

⭐ FAQs

You don’t need to be a water polo family to get started. If your child enjoys the water and is keen to try something new, we’ll help them learn the rest.

Does my child need water polo experience?
Not at all. Complete beginners are welcome. We’ll introduce the skills and the game as they go.

Do they need to know the rules?
No. They’ll learn the basics through training and playing. There’s no expectation that they understand water polo before they arrive.

How well do they need to swim?
Your child needs to be comfortable and confident in the water.

What age can children start?
GCWP has junior programs from U10 through to U16, with players grouped by age.

What if my child is a little nervous?
That’s okay. Trying a new sport can feel like a big step. Our coaches will help them settle in, meet the other players and join in at their own pace.

What if they don’t know anyone?
They soon will! Water polo is a team sport, and training is a great place to make new friends and become part of the GCWP community.
